Building the Studio - Part 2

We’re getting there. Since part 1 we’ve knuckled down and put in some proper blood, sweat and a few beers into the studio build. After the new roof timbers were installed we fixed part of the plasterboard ceiling to them and then took on the arduous task of digging out the floor to make room for some insulation and a concrete top. For some reason I decided to pick a day with 30 degree heat to make what seemed like 1000 barrow trips to remove the soil because I seem to know how to make things hard for myself. (giggity) The we whacked the whole thing down to make a sturdy base for the concrete floor.

First fit of the electrics was conducted by the legends that are Jarvis Electrical Services, despite nearly having call it off half way through wire installation because apparently there was “the biggest F’n spider I’ve ever seen” up in the loft. Next, damp proofing and insulation was put down and we drafted in a crack team to help us with concreting the floor. I say crack team, its just Raymond’s drinking buddies, but still they know how to put down a bit of concrete, as well as a few Bacardis on a Saturday night.

With the floor finished, we affixed the remainder of the plasterboard for the ceiling in preparation for the plasterers visit and the set out to remove the existing brown wood windows and doors ready for the arrival of the brand new PVC set. So part of the hole made by the vacated windows was bricked up and we fired up the gun show to put in a couple of steels to support the roof above the door section.

The Plasterer has been and left the ceiling smoother than the track at Budel after a grade. (If you know, you know). It’s drying still as I type this. Doors are set to arrive in the next week and insulating the walls starts in the next couple of days. I’ve begun to ramp up my search for storage units, a heater, a TV for the wall and most importantly a beer fridge. You know.

Anyways as always,

Keep riding and keep smiling.

Craig.
